The length of a consulting assignment depends on the project to be accomplished. It is normally not longer than six months. Every consultant is required to sign an agreement which defines the terms and conditions of the consultancy prior to taking up the assignment.
Consultants are not considered regular staff members of the CTBTO. Individuals and institutions with expertise in areas of relevance to the work programme of the CTBTO, such as seismology, geophysics, computer science, accounting, finance, human resource management or law, and who are available to work as consultants, are required to complete a Personal History Profile (PHP). Additional information relevant to your application including a letter of interest may be provided at item 30, “Other Information”. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.

The CTBTO awards a limited number of internships to university students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. Its purpose is to provide a learning and development experience in a field related to the Commission’s specialized activities in various professional fields. Interns usually work on specific practical assignments. Opportunities for internships are available subject to the current needs of the individual divisions within the CTBTO.
The duration of internships is normally not less than three months and not more than one year. Interns are subject to the authority of the Executive Secretary and undertake to observe all applicable Regulations, Rules, and Administrative Directives. For interns who do not receive financial support from an institution, university or other source, a stipend may be provided to assist with basic subsistence costs during the internship period. Furthermore, interns will be required to participate in the medical scheme of CTBTO at their own cost unless they provide proof of alternative medical coverage. All successful applicants are expected to make their own arrangement for travel, lodging and living expenses during the internship period.
